Tips to Cope With a Frequent Traveler Husband
The hubby, JC, travels a lot for his Professional Soccer Referee career, and it’s gotten to be even busier this past year! He’s constantly flying or driving out to the next game on his schedule. It’s gotten to be multiple times a week, every week. By no means do I have it the worst as far as a traveling husband/partner, but I thought I’d share how I handle the frequent alone time in hopes it will help someone else out there!
Pick Up a Hobby or Passion
My top tip would be to find a hobby or passion that you absolutely love. When I am not working like a workaholic, I am writing, taking photos, or brainstorming for my blog, or working on my various house projects. All the hobbies I have keep me busy and able to fill my time without JC here to bug me (: It could even be going to the gym, cooking, reading, journaling, drawing, writing, or anything you love to do!
Get an Animal (if you’re able)
If you are able to, getting an animal (cat, dog, fish, hamster…whatever floats your boat!) can really help to feel less alone. I know that Beau & Cali make a significant difference in my life. They are always ready to cuddle up and keep me warm. They also just make the house less quiet – it can be eerily quiet when I’m home alone without the animals or JC!
Ask for Help
Often times, I find myself in situations where I could really use some help when JC is not home. Whether it’s around the house, with the animals, or with renovation projects at work. It’s taken me a while to learn, and I still struggle, but ASK for help when you need it! Your friends, family, and co-workers even, want to help you, and they only can when you ask them. If it’s something you need on a regular basis, hire it out! Delegation is the key to a happy life, I swear!
Schedule Time with Friends or Family
Nights that I know JC will be out of town are great nights to schedule for dinners and fun things with friends or family. I love a good girl’s night when JC is out of town!
Find a Goal to Accomplish
One of my favorite things to do is pick a small project I can accomplish before JC gets home. It gives me such a sense of satisfaction to complete a project, and then be able to surprise JC with it! He also hypes me up a lot when he sees it and is a major complimenter, so it’s extra satisfying! Usually my projects are around the house, but sometimes it is cleaning both our cars, or washing Beau (our pup)!
No matter what tips I give you, having a significant other who is gone a lot for work can be really challenging. If nothing else, know that I empathize, and hope for you to find something that works for you while your hubby is away! As they say, while the hubby is away, the wife will play!
