Southerners have at least one thing right, and that is good old fashioned southern hospitality! The traditional definition of southern hospitality is “Showing graciousness, kindness, and warmth to others.” These classic pointers will have your friends and family swooning over your hospitality!
Always Send a Thank You Card
Sending a thank you card to me is like breathing air. It’s a given. I send thank you cards for gifts, when I stay at someone’s home, when someone does something really, over-the-top nice for me, and anything else that seems appropriate!
Be Kind to Strangers
The simplest acts of kindness towards strangers can go a very long way in their day. Hold the door open for those behind you, say thank you to anyone that helps you, smile at people, and say please when you ask for something. Being kind to others can actually benefit your own mental health and make you happier. After all, there are no strangers, just people we haven’t met yet.
Keep a Stocked Bar & Offer a Drink to Your Guests
Never miss an opportunity to offer your guests a freshly made beverage! Keep your bar stocked up with an assortment of wine, beer, and liquor, and make a drink for anyone you have over to your home. It will make them feel at home in your home! Loving the bar carts below to make it easier to stock up!
Acknowledge Birthdays & Special Events in People’s Lives
It means so much to your friends & family when you go out of your way to acknowledge their birthdays, and special events in their lives. Things like promotions and new jobs, buying a home, graduations, and having children are such monumental and life-changing moments in the lives of the people you value. Taking the time to say congratulations, and even going as far as getting them a small gift can mean the world to someone, and ultimately, make your relationship even closer.
Make Your Overnight Guests as Comfy as Possible
Offer your overnight guests a comfortable and private place to sleep (if you have one), small toiletries, fresh towels and sheets, and perhaps even leave a fresh water bottle on their bedside. I also have our home wifi password posted in the guest room, and an extra phone and Apple watch charger by the bedside. Your guests will appreciate the homey feel and surely come back!
