Today I am sharing my tricks I’ve picked up along the way of renovating homes and office spaces with a very low budget! These are easy and relatively inexpensive things that can make your home feel a little bit upgraded. Most are low effort but high results. It’s all in the details you know?!

Painting Walls, Trim & Ceilings

The easiest and least expensive way to make a massive difference in your home is PAINTING. It’s tried & true y’all. I really love to take it a step further than just painting the walls, and I usually paint all the trim a fresh high gloss extra white, and the ceiling a flat white. This just makes everything feel clean, bright, and fresh! It makes your wall color choice really pop against the fresh white. Not to mention, a new wall paint color can really make a space feel new and updated. My personal favorite for coverage is Behr Ultra paint from Home Depot. For walls I use an eggshell finish – gives it a nice sheen and is easy to clean, but isn’t too glossy or too flat. Ceilings should usually be flat and I use high gloss white for all my trim to make the white pop. My go-to paint colors are Stone Eagle by Behr and Ultra Pure White by Behr for our current home and our offices.

Hardware & Hinge Updates

Updating the hinges and the hardware on exterior and interior doors, bathroom vanities, kitchen cabinets is such a small change but can really make an impact. I love a good aged bronze or matte black finish on hardware usually. I love the way a new door handle can make a space feel so much more sophisticated. I actually just ordered these aged bronze door knobs to upgrade our new home & can’t wait. I’ve used them before so I know I love how they look! We opted for the lever style, rather than the round knobs, but I like the look of both. I think the lever makes it look a little more elegant, plus they’re easier to open if you have your hands full! Also – hot tip – buy on Amazon in the “contractor” packs if you are replacing several at one time, they are SO much cheaper than the single packaged ones you find at Lowes or Home Depot.

Curtain & Curtain Rods

Refreshing your curtains and curtain rods can refresh a space so well. Especially if your curtains or curtain rods don’t match the rest of the decor. You want something that ties in the wall colors, furniture, accent colors, etc. I personally love a color palette for a house, or room to really tie everything together. My curtains at home are these sheer white, grommet top ones, because my ultimate goal was to get as much light in the house as possible. It provides just enough privacy with still allowing light into the home. Our home is fairly dark so I was trying to maximize the light. For rods, my personal preference is a matte black or aged bronze finish, because, you know, it’s gotta match everything else!!!

Outlet Covers

By far the easiest and cheapest trick on this list is to go purchase white outlet covers. These are the best kept secret, I swear! The ones that cover the entire old outlet – so you literally don’t see it anymore! So many old homes have those yellow or cream colored outlets and when you just put a new white plate on it that still shows the yellow part, it can really break up the space. It’s honestly one of the first things I notice in a house. Sounds silly but it’s really true for me! They are so simple to install, they just screw in like a regular plate. They sell the full plate covers at Lowe’s and Home Depot, and I’ve linked them here for y’all so you can see what they look like.

Light Switch Plate Covers

To add to the outlet cover situation, upgrading your light switch plate covers can also make a huge difference. It gives me so much satisfaction when my switch plate covers match my door handles and hinges. It’s the best feeling. Especially against a freshly painted wall!! They plate covers are fairly inexpensive, but if you are replacing a ton of there, it can get a little pricey. My favorites are the aged bronze as shown at the bottom of this blog to match my door handles.

Floor Vent Registers

My final trick is to replace your floor vent covers. These things can get so dirty and even rusted sometimes. It is especially important if you have nice floors you’re trying to show off! Again, I went with an aged bronze finish in our home to create a really cohesive look, but there are so many options out there. Just make sure you get the right size, as floor vents are not always “standard”.

Hope these tricks make your home feel a little more upscale and cohesive for you! Let me know if y’all have any tricks…I’d love to hear them!!
