How To Make Use of Your Daily Commute

daily commute

Do you find yourself driving to & from work and wondering how much time you are wasting on the road?? I constantly do! My current work requires a fair amount of driving. My normal commute to and from work typically takes about 20 minutes, but I have several errands, meetings, office I have to check in on, and other miscellaneous reasons I have to run all over town for on a daily basis. All this driving made me start thinking about how I can better make use of the several hours I am spending in a car.

I tried LOTS of things. I tried listening to TV shows (I did not watch them, just listened, as some shows you don’t have to actually watch, like stand up comedy, pop culture TV like E! News, or some sitcoms), blasting all genres of music, calling friends/family, listening to meditations, and just driving silently. I finally landed on something that keeps my mind engaged and allows me to gain value and learn while in my car and that is PODCASTS. I’ve found about 3-5 favorites that I listen to religiously now on my daily commute. And let me tell you, I’ve been able to learn so many applicable things to my life and actually change my headspace and my life!

The other interesting thing I’ve learned from listening to a variety of podcasts is that it can be so incredibly insightful to listen to someone else’s life story, thoughts, and opinions. It has allowed me to expand my horizons and perspectives on life and gain an understanding (even if small) of how someone else views the world. Listed below are my top 5 podcasts I would recommend to everyone!

The Skinny Confidential’s Him & Her Podcast with Michael Bosstick and Lauryn Evarts Bosstick

Their interviews are incomparable. They dig really deep and get to the details I really want to know from any given guest. I’ve even listened to the shows I thought I might not like, and I ALWAYS end up getting some sort of insight or value for my life. By far my favorite podcast that I will be listening to for the foreseeable future.

The Ed Mylette Show (“Max Out”)

Ed Mylette has quickly become one of my favorites for motivational speaking. His show focuses on how to be the best you, and get the most out of your life. Would highly recommend to any “achievers” out there that want to maximize their life!

Ted Radio Hour with Guy Raz

This is one that has opened my eyes to some topics that I would’ve never thought or known about. It delves deep into some amazing philosophical topics each week. I honestly can’t listen to more than one or two per day, because it takes up so much brain power thinking about the large topics they bring up! It’s like brain overload!

Goal Digger with Jenna Kutcher

Jenna gives some great advice and tips for any entrepreneur out there trying to grow on social media! She also delves into life hacks in general to optimize your life. I’ve gained some great and effective information from her! If you have a business, or want to start selling or increasing your social media, give this one a listen.

The Skimm

Gives you a quick and awesome break down of current events in the news. It never goes too deep, but gives you a basic understanding of what is happening. My favorite part is that it is majorly unbiased, unlike many major news channels.
