This past weekend we had a gingerbread house making party with a few friends and it was so fun to make a mess and get some cute houses out of it! Sharing all the supplies we got and how we hosted!
So first things first, the gingerbread houses! We got 4 pre-made ones from Target. They were super cute and nice for those guests that didn’t want to have to actually construct the house. Then, we got 4 boxes of the mini village sets from Michael’s (similar ones on Amazon here!). Those were great because they are small enough to decorate fairly quickly.
For the candy decorations, I got a large variety of things I thought would be useful for gingerbread houses! My candy supply list:
- Reese’s
- Tootsie Rolls
- Pretzel sticks
- Nerds
- Chocolate chips
- Marshmallows
- Hershey Kisses
- Gummy Bears
- We also used the little assorted candies that came with the village sets, but it honestly was not nearly enough variety for me!
We got a few more fun supplies like craft sticks to help spread the icing, cardboard cake plates (the white circular ones underneath the gingerbread houses), and icing bags and decorative tips so people could get a little creative with it!
For icing, I mostly used the icing that came with the houses and just transferred them over to the icing bags, but I supplemented with homemade icing as well! The homemade icing recipe we used is here. To be honest, I failed miserably on the first batch of icing (LOL), so I had a friend who is stellar at baking do the icing for us.
After the houses were complete, we all voted on the best houses, and the 1st & 2nd place winners got a little gift from us! It was all in all a fun day and I would highly recommend it!!
